VCLab 3 Installation Guide

This information helps to install the browser plug-ins, which are necessary to run VCLab on your computer. The only what you need, is to download the setup files and run the setup. Before you start you should observe the information about the requirements, the browser and the MATLAB configuration on your system.

Explanations for VCLab Configuration
basic Only MATLAB operation without simulation, without 3D virtual reality views and without animation.
views The same as basic plus 3D virtual reality views, but without simulation and animation.
full The full VCLab palette. MATLAB operation, simulation, 3D virtual reality animation including real sound.

Alternative configurations are marked by different colors. Equal colored components belong together.


Installation Procedure

  1. If you have an old VCLab already installed, you must deinstall it and continue with step 2.
  2. Decide for which MATLAB version you want to install VCLab if you have different versions installed on your computer. VCLab will be installed for the version that has been run last.
  3. If you have MATLAB not available on your computer, install MATLAB or make it available from your MATLAB server.
  4. Verify where the MATLAB.EXE file is on your computer or server.
    If you reinstall or move MATLAB or your browser after a VCLab installation, VCLab must be deinstalled and then reinstalled.
  5. Download the actual setup file VCLab3.exe and finish the browser.
  6. Run the selfextracting file VCLab3.exe
    Follow the instructions of the installer.
  7. If the installer finishes successfully, perform the installation test.
  8. If you have installed for MATLAB 5, the installation is finished.
  9. If you have installed for MATLAB 6, run Matlab once from a command window by typing "matlab /regserver" to initialize Matlab as an automation server.
  10. If you have installed for MATLAB 6 and MATLAB.EXE is on a sever, ensure that the Path of your system environment is set to the directory where this file is located. In most cases \\mymatlabserver\matlab\bin\win32 .

Deinstallation Procedure

  1. Finish the browser.
  2. Open the Installed Software Folder in your System Control Panel,
    select VCLab x and press the deinstall button. Deinstallation is finished.
  3. If VCLab x cannot be deinstalled, remove the following files from the directory <disc>:\<programs>\Netscape\Communicator\Program\plugins\ :

THIS SOFTWARE USES MATLAB/SIMULINK TO DO EXTENSIVE CALCULATIONS ON YOUR LOCAL SYSTEM. SINCE MATLAB/SIMULINK ALLOWS ACCESS TO THE LOCAL DISCS AND FILE SYSTEMS MALLICIOUS OR BUGGY MATLAB M- OR MEX- FILES AND NATIVE AND DOS PROGRAMS CAN DESTROY OR MANIPULATE ALL DATA ON YOUR SYSTEM.
